LucyLu
Female
3 years old
LucyLu (turns 3 on 2/14/2012) is a very sweet, high energy girl who needs a new home. Single mom with 9 yr old feels she is unable to give LucyLu the time she deserves. LucyLu lives with a male Cocker Spaniel who is about the same size she is. They get along great with the exception of meal time. Currently, LucyLu is fed inside her kennel and the other dog is fed upstairs. The two are separated during meal time to prevent fights, however, there were no apparent issues when giving treats to both dogs at the same time.
LucyLu wants to play with all dogs, male or female, large or small. She and her Cocker Spaniel buddy walk together, LucyLu on the right and her buddy on the left. LucyLu loves to bark at birds and squirrels which has become a problem. However, it seems there are no issues once mom and daughter leave for the day. Neighbors say the dogs are very quiet.
She is good with children but should not go to a home with small children because she loves to jump on them. She loves to play ball and does a great job of retrieving a ball tossed by a Chuck It. She will get a toy and then bites or nibbles legs to encourage you to play with her. Lightening doesn’t bother her but she barks during fireworks and when she is excited, she spins up the stairs.
It is possible the LucyLu has some issues with separation anxiety. When door is closed between the garage and house and people are still in garage, she scratches the door. This behavior could also be explained by her need to see what she can sense or smell.
She also likes to lick clothes and the carpet. LucyLu may be a high energy girl, but she will be a great dog with a little patience and training. Exercise will be one of her best friends. She has great eye contact and is very food motivated. She is fed Blue dog food and loved the Zukes training treats used during the visit to assess her. She has a solid “sit” and her body almost vibrates in anticipation of a treat. She doesn’t appear to have any issues with being touched anywhere on her body. She uses a doggie door but will also ask to go out when it is closed. She currently has a large yard with a standard height chain link fence. She is micro chipped and up to date on vaccinations.
